Questions about Acupuncture

Acupuncture needles are very fine, and most people find the treatment comfortable. You may feel a brief sensation when a needle is inserted.
I will always check that you are comfortable throughout your appointment.

I use sterile, single-use, disposable acupuncture needles and follow appropriate hygiene and safety procedures.

Your first appointment includes time to talk through your health history, current circumstances and what you would like support with.
We can then discuss the most appropriate approach for you.

Your first acupuncture appointment lasts approximately 75 minutes. Follow-up appointments are usually around 60 minutes.
If you are unsure which appointment to book, you're welcome to arrange a free 15-minute phone consultation first.

It is best to have something to eat before your appointment rather than arriving hungry.
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the areas being treated.

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended. Depending on the treatment, you may need to expose areas such as the lower legs or arms.

Everyone responds differently to acupuncture.
Some people find the treatment deeply relaxing and may feel calm or rested afterwards. Others may feel a little tired for a short while. You may also notice sensations around the areas that have been treated.

There is no set number of appointments. This varies depending on your individual circumstances and what you would like to focus on.

This allows me to take your individual circumstances into consideration when planning your appointment.

Depending on your individual circumstances, your appointment may incorporate different approaches and techniques, including Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture, musculoskeletal and orthopaedic acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, electroacupuncture and cupping.
We can discuss the most appropriate approach during your appointment.
